What Is Mulesing?
Merino wool is an amazing product. It is a perfect natural base layer and a great alternative to man-made fibers. In short Merino Wool is a great product for anyone who spends time in the outdoors.

However, there is a dark secret in the world of budget Merino wool, Mulesing.

What is Mulesing?
To make Merino sheep farming financially viable, in some areas of the world the flocks of sheep are huge, and flystrike (an infestation of flies and Maggots on and in the sheep’s skin), can be a big problem.

A dangerous and painful practice, mulesing is done to prevent flystrike. The procedure involves restraining the sheep and cutting away portions of their skin, specifically around the tail and anus. Horrifyingly, this is often without the use of painkillers.
"Our" sheep
The Farmer we source our wool from has a small flock, and can therefore prevent and treat any health issues with their flock with good animal husbandry.
If these sheep are going to give up their fleeces to keep our feet warm and cozy, we believe we have a responsibility to look after our woolly friends.
